About

Hi, welcome!

This is where I’m suppose to ramble on about me….

I live in Ontario Canada. I own a house and live with my older sister, her husband and my mom. We also have 3 crazy dogs named Daka, Dorje and Ellie who were all adopted as adult dogs. I hope to one day be able to have a French and English bulldog.

In my spare time I knit, do cross stitch, read, watch TV, and play video games.

I’m huge into social media.

If you want to email me directly please do so at loker.penny@gmail.com.
If you want to send me anything please note you DO NOT HAVE TO but if you really, really want to please email me.

I know this goes without saying but this blog is meant to be a safe place and I will not approve any comments that are MEAN in anyway, If you commented and I didn’t approve it please send me an email directly and will let you know if it was an error or if I really did have to pass on that comment. I suspect based so far that this will NOT be something I do often or at all. If you leave your personal email address for me please note I will ALWAYS edit that out before approving comments unless you tell me otherwise as I will try to protect your privacy. Also it’s not really required since you have to put your email in before WordPress will let you leave a comment.

I will take requests so if there is a news article or news item that you want me to speak about by all means either leave a comment or email me directly my email address is loker.penny@gmail.com.

Lastly I may not write everyday like my blog mentors John Scalzi or Joseph Mallozzi (feel free to check out their blogs and tell them I sent you) so please forgive me because I never really thought I’d have a blog that people actually wanted to read so THANKS!!

  1. I read your story on CNN and was wondering if there was a way I could email you. It really touched me and I would enjoy sharing some similar experiences I’ve had. I too don’t know what’s it like to have a family and hope for it as well and you should never give up either.

  2. Hi Penny, Just read CNN article, and think you’re a total inspiration and a truly beautiful person!!!!!! Being such a big promoter of of Anthony B. / “Parts Unknown”, that dude should totally invite you on his next trip. In meantime, hope you’re able to make it to ComicCon this year. Take care, Nick

  3. I read more about you on other websites than CNN had to say. You are a great person and I’m sorry you have to go through so much crap. You have lips, eyes, a nose and a smile just like everyone else does. You are no different from anyone else, everyone is unique and you are no more unique than anyone else. Nobody’s facial features are the same. I’m probably ranting but I just wish that everyone would be more sensitive to fellow human beings.

  4. Good Morning Penny,

I read your story on CNN, I know exactly how cruel people and especially children in school can be. I have an interesting background and though it differs greatly from your own, I know too what it is like to be shunned and talked about.

I later went on to Join the military and have since completed tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. I have overcome some things and struggle with others.

If you ever wish to email or even converse, please let me know.

    V/R,
    Bill

  5. Hi Penny – Your courage has inspired me to reach out to you. You have said you would like to educate others. I work with The Arc of Luzerne County teaching work readiness to young adults with intellectual disabilities – would you perhaps be interested in a google hangout or skype talk with the students? It would be a great step in the direction of getting your speaking career started. Please read more about our program here, and my contact info is at the bottom of the page. http://trace.mixxt.org/networks/content/index

    P.S. You rock!

  6. Penny, my husband and I just adopted a boy from Poland affected by Goldenhar. My husband called me from his office yesterday to tell me about your article on CNN and that he had “googled” you immediately and found your blog. Clearly, we are thrilled to see the publicity and, hopefully, more awareness for children and adults who look different. I am a member of a yahoo group for parents of children with Goldenhar, but it is great to find a place to see the thoughts of someone who has grown up with it. We are always questioning whether what we are doing is right and want our son to have the confidence and strength to do whatever he wants despite how people might react to him. We thought we had missed your live chat (we were watching the news on Boston) but am glad to see that we may be able to catch it after all. If you are interested you can look at our blog about our adoption and experiences here at home with Lukasz. http://www.fivekanekids.blogspot.com Please email me any suggestions you have or comments, we are SO open to considering any positive advice. Again, thank you for speaking out.

  7. Hello Penny!

My wife, Wendy, brought my attention to your CNN article and I would just like to say that I am moved by your strength, fortitude and determination! I am inspired by your continuing triumph over your challenges and the fact that you even have enough love left over to begin a crusade!

While reading your CNN article, I zeroed-in on the tiny part that you wanted to visit Blizzcon or Comic-Con one day.

Well, if you ever make it to California, please look me up! I work for DC Entertainment, and you are welcome to come and I will, personally, give you a tour of the DC Comics offices in Burbank and even the Warner Bros. movie lot!

And although I cannot make any promises in their stead, I do have friends at Blizzard in Irvine…so it might not be too far-fetched to arrange a visit to *their* headquarters as well!

I wholeheartedly believe that me reading your article on Superman’s 75th birthday is no coincidence. Superman has always fought for those who cannot fight for themselves, fought for equality, tolerance and acceptance. And you are definitely a self-styled Woman of Steel!

Thank you for your time in reading my note! Have a great day!

  8. Penny~ Thank you for sharing your story with the world. You are very brave, and it breaks my heart to think of how you have been hurt by the lack of sensitivity of others. To me, your beauty radiates in your smile, your words, your strength. I had to smile big at the image of you and your “rocks”, they are blessed to have you and you them. Contnue to shine, and I wish you the best, I wish you the courage to realize your dreams. I pray you go on your vacation and have the best time ever!!! Much love from someone very humbled and inspired by you.

    Denise
